“Respect for HöNie” – Speldorf receives relegated bottom team

Whistle blows again in the Landesliga Niederrhein 2! VfB Speldorf will kick off the match against SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter, who are bottom of the table. Julien Schneider assesses the situation.

VfB Speldorf are in a bit of a no-man’s land in the Landesliga Niederrhein 2. The team from Mülheim have made themselves comfortable in eighth place.

Not much will go up, as VfB are already eight points behind Niederwenigern (second place). Sportfreunde also have one game less to play. The bottom of the table is a comfortable nine points away.

Julien Schneider, who took over Speldorf in the winter, assured that the preparation was used to the full, despite the relaxed situation in the table: “We tried to get the automatisms in quickly and were able to play convincingly for long stretches. There was also a lot of shade due to the cup exit, which we naturally imagined differently – which is fitting for such a preparation.”

Despite their position in no man’s land, there are of course also resolutions for the new year in Speldorf: “Our squad is very young and we want to try to develop it further – also to a certain extent regardless of results. Nevertheless, these are of course the main focus. We have to throw ourselves into every game anew. “

We will definitely not underestimate HöNie, who I would like to express my respect for. They have now made a clear cut for themselves and are concentrating on training their players.

The Schneider squad can start the 2024 soccer year with a home game, hosting bottom-placed SV Hönnepel-Niedermörmter.

With just five points, the team from Kleve are bottom of the table and have most likely already been relegated without a trace. After just 21 games, they are already 22 points adrift of safety. That’s a real plank that needs to be drilled.

Nevertheless, the Speldorf coach does not want to underestimate his opponents and praises them: “We’re looking more at ourselves. We definitely won’t underestimate HöNie, who I would also like to express my respect for. They have now made a clear cut for themselves and are concentrating on training their players.”

Schneider continued: “Nevertheless, we are aware that everyone expects three points from us. That also corresponds to our expectations for the coming weekend.”
