“Bottom drawer” – Dresden fans mock injured Felix Götze

In the top match of the 3rd division, Rot-Weiss Essen fought their way to a 2:2 (2:1) draw at Dynamo Dresden. Felix Götze injures his head in the closing stages.

There was obviously a lot of frustration among the Dynamo Dresden fans. In the top match of the 3rd division against Rot-Weiss Essen, the promotion contenders only managed a 2:2 (1:2) draw despite having the upper hand.

In stoppage time of the turbulent match, some of the hosts’ fans showed why the club has been fighting unsuccessfully for years against its poor reputation in German soccer. RWE defender Felix Götze was hit so hard on the head in a collision with Dresden’s Jakob Lemmer that he fell to the ground and immediately bled profusely. The game was then over for the top performer from Essen.

As the brother of Rio world champion Mario Götze was carried off the pitch on a stretcher, he was accompanied by loud shouts of “goodbye” from the Dynamo fan block. The paramedics used umbrellas to protect the Essen player from projectiles thrown from the crowd.

Andreas Mann, commentator for the broadcasting channel Magenta Sport, described the shouts from the Dynamo supporters as “disrespectful” and “bottom drawer”.

RWE defender Felix Götze injured – that’s what Dabrowski says

As Rot-Weiss Essen had already exhausted all their substitutions, they had to survive the remaining three minutes with one player less. They succeeded, but there was great concern for Götze afterwards. “We hope it’s just a laceration and that Felix hasn’t suffered any fractures,” said RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski on Magenta Sport.
