Münster pro with brace against SF Siegen

Preußen Münster’s U23s climbed to sixth place with victory against SF Siegen. Professional loanee Ogechika Heil gained practice and self-confidence.

Preußen Münster’s U23s defeated Sportfreunde Siegen 3-2 in a catch-up match in the Oberliga Westfalen. Luca Steinfeldt scored for coach Kieran Schulze-Marmeling’s team with his 15th goal of the season and professional loanee Ogechika Heil, who contributed a brace to the home win.

Heil is coming back from a lengthy injury and is to be reintroduced to the third division team via the U23s. Since moving to Münster in August 2023, he has only made one appearance in the third division.

The match: Siegen never gave up despite going behind and reduced the deficit to 1-2 through Mats Scheld and to 2-3 shortly after the break through Markus Pazurek.

Siegen coach Thorsten Nehrbauer was adamant that the equalizer was no longer on the cards, but would have been thoroughly deserved: “The defeat is completely unnecessary. We missed the first 20 or 25 minutes and committed an unnecessary foul in the box, where the striker had his back to goal. For the second goal, we’re poorly positioned in the middle. Then we come back and get the third with the whistle. We didn’t have enough grip. That got a lot better after the break, we improved enormously. After the final goal, we had two huge situations to equalize and the team gave everything despite the debatable circumstances. We would have deserved a point; we will learn from this and become smarter.”

Pazurek, the scorer of the 2:3, was also satisfied and commented on the Siegen homepage: “We beat ourselves by conceding goals too easily. Münster were able to do too much up front and we weren’t aggressive enough. We rallied in the second half and got some momentum back after the break, but we have to be more effective and play more cleanly at the back. Then we’ll start winning games again.”

Münster’s U23s continue their campaign on Sunday (March 3, 3 p.m.) against 1. FC Gievenbeck. Siegen play at home against SpVgg Vreden at the same time
