Rot Weiss Ahlen suffered a thumping in the catch-up match on matchday 18 of the Regionalliga West: The Ahlen team lost 1:5 (1:3) to SV Rödinghausen. This increases Ahlen’s relegation worries, as SV Lippstadt won 2:1 against FC Wegberg-Beeck in the other catch-up match and pushed Ahlen down to 17th place in the table.
Man of the match was Simon Engelmann, who scored a hat-trick (2nd, 57th, 73rd). Ramien Safi (7th) and Mattis Rohlfing (43rd) scored the other SVR goals, while Kevin Coleman (33rd) scored the only goal for RWA to make it 1-2 at the interval.
Björn Joppe, head coach of Ahlen, was annoyed about the opening phase, which his team overslept: “It took us almost half an hour to get into the game. The first two goals were scored after individual mistakes because we weren’t concentrated and focused.” The goal to make it 1-2 gave the Wersestadt team hope, but Rödinghausen increased their lead before half-time, which turned out to be a preliminary decision.
“We were fully in the game with the 1-2. But the 1-3 was clearly down to the referee. There was a clear foul in midfield that wasn’t whistled and the 1-3 was awarded immediately afterwards. It was absolute shit for us at that moment because we were completely in the game and better than our opponents,” said Joppe, scolding the referee. The RWA coach drew a sobering conclusion: “In the end, Rödinghausen were brutally effective and the result was a little too high. We’re disappointed that we didn’t get anything. “
With four defeats in a row and a drop to 17th place, RWA must fear for their survival in the league. Despite the crisis, Joppe was combative: “We won’t bury our heads in the sand and won’t give up, because we’ve often shown in games that we can come back.”
SV Rödinghausen climbed to eighth place thanks to the resounding victory and recorded their fourth away win in a row. Coach Farat Toku was pleased with his team: “We got off to a really good start and scored two goals from our first two chances. We’ve lacked that kind of efficiency in recent weeks.”
Toku continued: “Not much went wrong in the second half and we played it out with confidence. Over 90 minutes, it was a deserved win. To be honest, I don’t care whether it was a fair result. I’m happy for the boys that we scored the goals and were able to get a result like that.”
