FC Gütersloh clarifies three important personnel matters

FC Gütersloh has clarified three important players. The key players will stay beyond the summer.

Even though FC Gütersloh have been without a win for five games, the East Westphalians are well on their way to staying in the league. They are currently the best promoted team in the Regionalliga West and are eight points above the 15th relegation spot (with one more game to play).

The planning for the coming season has already begun and FCG presented decisions with a signal effect on Tuesday. With Julian Schauerte (35 years), Kevin Freiberger (35) and Jarno Peters (30), an established trio has made a commitment for next season. The key players have extended their contracts and will remain at Heidewald.

“All three are very valuable to us and will help us to establish FCG in the regional league with their quality and experience. Basically, we also want to keep the majority of the team,” explained sporting director Rob Reekers.

With Peters and Schauerte, Julian Hesse’s two long-standing team stalwarts have extended their contracts. The goalkeeper, who has played at Heidewald since 2019, has not missed a single minute. Defender Schauerte, who can look back on a wealth of professional experience (including second division championship with Fortuna Düsseldorf), only had to miss one match due to a yellow card suspension. Freiberger was also always on the pitch, with only a few exceptions. The former Essen player is an important part of the offense with seven goals in 22 appearances this season

In the summer, the team will apparently be rejuvenated a little, as Gütersloh has the highest average age of all western regional leagues. “The experienced players should keep calm when things don’t go as expected. And the young, talented players should have a good mentality, good character and development potential,” explains Reekers.

In addition to the trio, six other players are currently tied to FCG beyond the summer, according to the transfermarkt.de database: Captain Tim Manstein, top goalscorer Patrik Twardzik, Armin Pjetrovic, Grigorijs Degtjarevs, Tim Matuschewsky and Leo Weichert.
