SC Paderborn regained the lead in the 2nd Bundesliga with a hard-earned victory.

Against promoted 1. FC Magdeburg, the East Westphalians won 1:0 (0:0) after a long period of overtime. Bundesliga relegated Greuther Fürth, meanwhile, remained without a win for the 20th game in a row with a 2-2 (0-1) draw against FC St. Pauli. Jahn Regensburg stopped their losing streak with a 0-0 draw against Holstein Kiel.

Substitute Marvin Pieringer (79th) gave Paderborn their fourth win in their fourth home game. Magdeburg was decimated after Jamie Lawrence was shown a yellow card (40th) and could not withstand the pressure of the hosts in the final phase. With four points, Christian Titz’s team is in a relegation spot, Paderborn already has twelve points more on their account. On Friday, 1. FC Heidenheim had initially moved past the SCP.

Fürth had the end of their bad streak in sight, in the end it came to nothing again. Marcel Hartel (19.) gave Hamburg the lead. Branimir Hrgota (48.) equalised for the hosts, an own goal by St. Pauli’s captain Jackson Irvine (52.) made it 2:1 for the home side. Connor Metcalfe (85th), however, made it 2:2 for the team from the Millerntor, for whom Leart Paqarada also hit the crossbar with a penalty in the 72nd minute. Fürth at least left the bottom of the table.

After three defeats, some of them heavy, Regensburg ended their slump, but SSV Jahn have now waited five games for a win. After conceding ten goals in two games, SSV Jahn were much more stable defensively this time and were able to stop the flood of goals conceded.
