Preußen Münster won its top match against Dynamo Dresden 1:0 and now shares a special mark in German professional soccer with Bayer Leverkusen.
SC Preußen Münster is simply unstoppable. After six league wins in a row and moving up to fourth place, the weeks of truth should now follow: Three games in three weeks against the top three in the table.
And lo and behold, even that didn’t knock the promoted team off its stride. To kick off the tough schedule, the Eagles beat Dynamo Dresden 1:0 at home, knocking the Saxons out of the relegation places and are now third themselves.
“I looked to see where I could best position myself to be dangerous on goal,” explained goalscorer Malik Batmaz afterwards on Magenta Sport. “I knew the ball could go in there. That I then hit it so perfectly and it goes into the far corner – that’s just super nice.”
It’s also great for Münster that they are still unbeaten in 2024 – at least in the league. They recently suffered a bitter semi-final exit to Arminia Bielefeld in the Westphalia Cup, but they are currently the measure of all things in the league.
Only Bayer 04 Leverkusen and league rivals SSV Ulm 1846 can keep up with them, with the Bundesliga leaders also yet to lose a league game this year. On Saturday, they won a dramatic 2:1 against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. This makes the Rhinelanders, Preußen Münster and Ulm the only three teams in German professional soccer to still have a clean sheet in 2024. It’s logical that the Westphalians are now definitely a promotion candidate. “If you go on a run like that and score like that, then you’re an absolute contender for promotion,” said Dynamo coach Markus Anfang about Münster’s role in the final stretch of the season.
