17-goal man on top scorer: “It will be a neck-and-neck race”

Preußen Münster II’s Luca Steinfeldt scored his 17th goal of the season in the 1-0 win against SG Wattenscheid 09 on matchday 26 of the Oberliga Westfalen.

Luca Steinfeldt scored his 17th goal of the season for Preußen Münster II in the 1-0 win against SG Wattenscheid 09 on matchday 26 of the Oberliga Westfalen and then celebrated the eleventh three-pointer of the current season with his team.

It was the Münster side’s first win after three games without a win in a row. “It was a very intense game and the pitch was very difficult to play on. We did well and could have scored two or three goals in the first half. Although we were outnumbered for around 25 minutes, we threw ourselves into every ball like an old men’s team and I have to pay my team a huge compliment for that,” explained Steinfeldt after the match against SGW.

With 17 goals so far this season, Steinfeldt is in second place in the scoring charts of the Oberliga Westfalen. Only Maximilian Podehl from ASC Dortmund has scored more often with 18 goals. The battle for this year’s top scorer crown will obviously be between the two strikers.

“I believe that Maxi Podehl also scores in double figures every year and that it will be a neck-and-neck race. However, my aim is to train the boys properly and lead them on the pitch. I want to lead the way and if it works out with the goals, then of course it’s great. The most important thing is to stay healthy and everything else comes naturally,” explained the goalscorer, who is one of the older players in the team.

I don’t want to reduce him to his goals, because he’s very, very important for the team and a very good leader.

Kieran Schulze-Marmeling

After the win against Wattenscheid, Münster’s head coach Kieran Schulze-Marmeling also underlined the importance of the 27-year-old for his team, even if the coach does not want to measure the striker by his goals.

“His performance against Wattenscheid was good, but it was also good in the previous games in which he didn’t score. I don’t want to reduce him to his goals, because he is very, very important for the team and a very good leader,” revealed the coach.

After the game, Schulze-Marmeling also highlighted two other players who made a good impression against Wattenscheid. “David Sauerland played his first game since last May and at center-back, a position he has never played in before. With Ben Kronenberg, we also had an U19 player in central defense. Despite his yellow card, he and Sauerland did a really good job.”
