Captain as a guest – Vinko Sapina on KSC rumors and the hot MSV derby

Vinko Sapina, captain of Rot-Weiss Essen, visited us and spoke to RWE Talk “Vonne Hafenstraße” about his first turbulent year at RWE and what he still hopes to achieve in Essen.

On Sunday (4:30 pm), the big derby between Rot-Weiss Essen and MSV Duisburg in the 3rd division will take place in the sold-out stadium on Hafenstraße.

A battle for survival for MSV, and for RWE, eight points behind third place, probably the last chance to make a final push for the top three places.

However, the team from Essen can play without pressure as they are already having a very good season. Essen’s CEO Marcus Uhlig, the chairman of the supervisory board André Helf, squad planner Marcus Steegmann, supervisory board member Waldemar Wrobel, former captain Felix Bastians.

They’ve all been with us to talk about the situation at RWE. Ahead of the derby at Hafenstraße, RWE captain Vinko Sapina visited us on Thursday to talk about the 90 minutes in the RWE talk “Vonne Hafenstraße”, which were a real rollercoaster ride of emotions for him in the first leg.

Leading 1-0, then Sapina scored into his own net in the 90th minute, but RWE scored in stoppage time to make it 2-1. RWE now return to the derby after a break of several weeks. We also talk about the cancellation in Saarbrücken due to the difficult pitch issue

Also about his first year in Essen, where a lot has happened. A highlight in the DFB Cup against HSV, a change of captain, a turbulent AGM, two board members leaving office. In winter, there were suddenly rumors that Sapina wanted to leave RWE again. Karlsruher SC is said to have knocked on his door, and Sapina also comments on this

In fan circles, it was a sensitive issue, as the cases of Felix Bastians, Dennis Grote and Daniel Davari had previously been reported. They are united by the fact that they were captains at RWE and did not really leave the club in peace

And of course we take a look into the future. What’s still to come this season, in which winning the Lower Rhine Cup is still possible? What does the captain think about the new season? One thing is clear: we have overrun the 19:07 minutes. There was a lot to talk about. We hope you enjoy listening.
