FC Brünninghausen let a 3-0 lead slip from their grasp last Sunday. As the competition was able to score points, they are now bottom of the Oberliga Westfalen.
Although there has only been one defeat since coach Reza Hassani took office, victories remain a rarity for FC Brünninghausen. After giving away a win against TuS Ennepetal, FC are now bottom of the Oberliga Westfalen.
While rivals Sprockhövel and Wattenscheid were both able to clinch a three-pointer, Brünninghausen let a 3-0 lead slip away at home and ended up only drawing 3-3.
“You lead 3:0, have the opponent completely under control. Then you make an individual mistake to make it 3:1. That can happen, we’re not robots. But I expect the team to then continue to defend brutally,” explained the disappointed FC coach.
Nevertheless, they want to “take out the positive things. We will address the mistakes head-on. But the positive thing is that we’ve been unbeaten for five games.”
The aforementioned run of five games without defeat has given the team renewed confidence: “It was important for us to clear our heads. So that there is a belief within the team that we can do it, that we can play soccer.”
“I don’t want the lads to think that if we miss out on one or two points at the end that it was because of this game. We also had games like this in the first half of the season where we let it slip from our grasp.”
Hassani not surprised by Wattenscheid
SG Wattenscheid 09 have won five of their seven matches in the second half of the season. That doesn’t surprise the Brünninghausen coach: “You can see what they’ve added in terms of personnel over the winter. They are all seasoned Oberliga players.”
He was more surprised that the SG is involved in the relegation battle at all: “To be honest, we didn’t have Wattenscheid on our radar at all. “
According to Hassani, the financial differences to FC Brünninghausen are one of the main reasons for Wattenscheid’s strong second half of the season: “They had different resources in the winter. We couldn’t fire as much ammunition. What they have added in terms of personnel is unparalleled.”
Despite the current situation in the table, the coach remains optimistic: “It’s really tough. Anyone can win against anyone. Lotte also dropped points against us. You’re not far off the bottom.”
Nevertheless, the FC coach is hoping for some help: “We have to do our homework and then we hope that the others will drop points at some point.”
At least in terms of injuries, there are no new names to announce. Only Anis El Hamassi (stretched ankle ligaments), Maciej Bokemueller (illness) and Dillon Neseraj (hamstring strain), who were previously absent, are out for the upcoming game.
Brünninghausen will travel to Rhynern next Sunday. Westfalia recently won 4:3 against third-placed ASC 09 and are currently in twelfth place
