Westfalia Herne scores points for promotion – competition helps out

A preliminary decision has probably been made in the promotion race in Landesliga Westfalen 3. Things remain tight in the basement.

Westfalia Herne’s direct promotion is getting closer and closer. Coach Christian Knappmann’s team also played a part in the 27th matchday of the Landesliga Westfalen 3 – just like the competition.

After a strong and above all goal-rich second half, Herne were able to prevail 5:0 at relegated SG Welper. Four goals were scored in the second 45 minutes. The victory was, however, overshadowed by results on the other pitches.

Firstly, YEG Hassel lost 2-1 to SV Wanne 11, with Westfalia’s closest rivals now five points behind the leaders with three matchdays remaining.

SV Vestia Disteln even have two more. The promoted side lost 3-2 to SV Brackel and were already 3-0 down at half-time. However, a direct march through remains within the realms of possibility should the runners-up also be promoted.

SSV Buer underpinned their fifth place with a 3:1 win at SW Wattenscheid 08, but the promotion places are already too far away for the Red Shirts.

Sportfreunde Wanne-Eickel secured an important victory at the other end of the table. Their 3-2 win over Königsborner SV means they are now seven points clear of the first relegation spot

With SG Welper and VfB Westhofen, who lost 1-0 at SuS Kaiserau, two teams have already been relegated. Third place will probably be decided between Sportfreunde, SW Wattenscheid, TuS Hannibal and FC Altenbochum.

That’s why Altenbochum’s 3:2 win over Hannibal in the promotion duel was probably a very important victory just before the end of the season.

DJK TuS Hordel, meanwhile, could probably live with a point. The 2-2 draw against BW Westfalia Langenbochum was not enough to overtake their opponents, but at least secured their place in the midfield
