Götze and Harenbrock not an issue – full focus on 1860

On Friday evening, Rot-Weiss Essen will host TSV 1860 Munich for the last home game of the year. Christoph Dabrowski is fully focused on the game.

Rot-Weiss Essen can put pressure on SSV Jahn Regensburg, who are not in action until Saturday (May 11, 2pm, RS live ticker) at Viktoria Köln, with a win against TSV 1860 Munich on Friday evening.

“I’m not really interested in that,” said Christoph Dabrowski ahead of the 1860 match. “We don’t need to worry about that for the time being. We want to win this home game and also want to hold on to fourth place in the table. Because that would mean qualifying for the DFB Cup. Of course, we still believe we have a chance of promotion. But first we have to do our homework and then watch what our rivals are doing on TV on Saturday.”

In contrast to the previous press conference before the Sandhausen game, the RWE coach did not want to answer any questions about any contractual situations this time. Dabrowski dismissed the forecasting question as to whether there was a deadline for Cedric Harenbrock and Felix Götze in terms of contract extensions.

Dabrowski: “I ask for your understanding that we are only concentrating on the game against 1860 Munich. That is our focus. We can only work together now, personal sensitivities don’t play a role. I already spoke at length last week about personnel matters and the future of individual players.” However, the Essen coach had not spoken about the expiring contracts of Harenbrock and Götze.

Harenbrock and Götze: Both RWE players are aiming for the 2nd Bundesliga

According to forecasting information, there has been no movement in either case for weeks. It is understandable that the players are currently being left alone and that the subject of contract extensions is not an issue. RS also knows that both players are flirting with a move to the 2nd Bundesliga. RWE only seems to be “plan B” here.

Perhaps that could change if Rot-Weiss Essen were to reach third place in the relegation play-offs and be successful in them. But the question can be asked: How long will Rot-Weiss Essen wait for the decisions of Götze and Harenbrock?
