Promotion this season only goes through Preußen Münster

SC Preußen Münster has taken over the top spot in the Regionalliga West. This season, promotion can only be won by SCP. Comment.

SC Preußen Münster stayed in the 3rd division for ten years, until relegation to the Regionalliga followed in the summer of 2020. Now, in its third year, in the fourth-tier Regionalliga West, everything looks as if SC Preußen could return to the 3. Liga.

After the last two seasons and the promotions of Borussia Dortmund II and Rot-Weiss Essen, this season, the 2022/2023 series, there is actually no team far and wide that could pose a threat to the SCP on the road. If at all, then that is currently only the next Preußen opponent: SV Rödinghausen. But we’re not going to lie: at the end of the season, promotion will only go through Preußen Münster.

Strong squad planning by Peter Niemeyer

Why? Prussia simply have the best squad in the league. Coach Sascha Hildmann and, above all, sporting director Peter Niemeyer did a great job in the summer and put together a top squad. Those who thought that departures such as Marcel Hoffmeier (SC Paderborn), Robin Ziegele (FSV Zwickau), Dominik Klann (SC Verl) or Julian Schauerte (1. FC Kaan-Marienborn) could not be compensated were wrong about the additions such as Alexander Hahn, Shaibou Oubeyapwa, Andrew Wooten, Yassine Bouchama or Marc Lorenz. The aforementioned players turned out to be direct hits and are already key players in Hildmann’s team.

And this team is performing week after week – seven games, six wins, one draw and 20:4 goals – while the competition, which was so highly rated before the season, such as Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, Wuppertaler SV or Fortuna Köln, is already eight (RWO), nine (WSV) or even eleven points behind Münster. Who is going to stop these Prussians? With all due respect, it won’t be the strong promoted teams Kaan-Marienborn or 1. FC Düren. Only Rödinghausen is still holding out against the Adlerträgern. Next weekend, the Münster team can put another big exclamation mark on their return to the Third Division after three years with a win against SVR.
