Three new ones! One has just left Wattenscheid 09

SpVgg Erkenschwick has struck again on the transfer market. A trio is coming in for the upcoming Oberliga season – some of them from the competition.

Kiyan Gilani, Tomislav Simic and Fabrizio Fili are joining SpVgg Erkenschwick. The announcement was made late on Tuesday evening, June 11, by last year’s fourth-placed team in the Oberliga Westfalen.

Fili was just the first to leave SG Wattenscheid 09. The 20-year-old, who moved to the Lohrheide from Viktoria Köln in the U19 Bundesliga in 2023, had his first men’s stop at SGW. Now he’s moving on to the competition.

“Fabrizio is a transfer that couldn’t be more typical of Spielvereinigung Erkenschwick. He was a difference-maker at an extremely high level last season. Fabrizio is eager to take the next step in his career with us. We know that he has potential for even more – he wants to get better and we want to make him better. His mentality also makes him an excellent fit for Schwarz-Rot and he will be a great addition to our attacking team structure,” said his new coach Magnus Niemöller.

Fili has played a total of 25 Oberliga games, in which he scored one goal and provided four assists. Fili also made 29 appearances for Viktoria Köln’s U19s, 24 of them in the U19 Bundesliga (one goal, two assists). He is at home in central midfield.

Simic is 26 years old and can be deployed variably in defense. With ASC 09 Dortmund, he narrowly missed out on promotion to the regional league last season, playing 15 times.

“As a left-footer, he can operate perfectly in a back four as well as in a back three and could even take on a full-back role. This flexibility makes him an extremely valuable player for us. He also has that certain bouncer mentality that is particularly in demand in the Oberliga Westfalen,” said Niemöller, looking forward to his new signing.

Gilani is a 24-year-old attacking player and is moving to Erkenschwick from TSG Sprockhövel. With TSG, he had to cope with relegation to the Westfalenliga last season. In 24 games, the Bochum native scored eleven goals and provided two assists.

“Kiyan has been our transfer target for the summer for some time. Kiyan played his way into the spotlight last season in particular. He exudes a lot of goal threat in the attacking positions, but is also a player who can play the last or penultimate pass excellently, brings a lot of pace and has short, quick movements. We were very impressed by his determination to come to Erkenschwick. He will give our offense further important impulses,” said Niemöller.
