SV Werder Bremen continue to clarify their squad. Now in attack, where the Werder team announced some good news to their fans.

Attacker Justin Njinmah has signed a long-term contract extension with his employer SV Werder Bremen. This was announced by SVW on Thursday, June 13. The club did not disclose the length of the contract.

“Justin developed very well in his first professional year with us,” said Werder Bremen’s Clemens Fritz, Head of Professional Football. “Unfortunately, he had to take a longer break at the end of the season due to illness and injury. But we are sure that he will start the new season with full energy. We don’t think he’s reached the end of his development yet and still has a lot of potential.”

Despite the adversity, Njinmah has scored six goals and provided two assists in 24 games in his first Bundesliga season. A strong figure for the 23-year-old, who returned from BVB II last summer after a one-year loan.

His coach Ole Werner is also delighted with the contract extension. “Justin developed very well last season and earned himself an important place in the team thanks to his good performances. He also has skills beyond his speed that make our game more variable. We are convinced that he will continue his positive development.”

Justin Njinmah found his way to Werder Bremen’s second team via Holstein Kiel’s U19s in the summer of 2021. Just six months and 20 scoring points in 18 Regionalliga-Nord games later (14 goals, six assists), SVW loaned the attacker to Borussia Dortmund II in the 3rd division, including a purchase option.

A good move, as it turned out. The speedy striker was also a regular for BVB II in the 3rd division and impressed. In total, he scored 18 goals and provided seven assists in 51 third division games – and Njinmah even made his debut for the Dortmund professionals in September 2022 (0:3 in Leipzig). Nevertheless, BVB let the purchase option expire.

Perhaps fortunately for Njinmah, who is developing magnificently in Bremen: “I feel very comfortable in the team and in Bremen, especially the atmosphere at home games is outstanding. We have a good team that made really good progress last year. For me personally, it feels very good at Werder and I am convinced that I can take further important steps in my career here. That’s why I’ve decided to extend my contract early,” said the 23-year-old himself.
