TSV Meerbusch dramatically saved themselves from relegation on the final matchday of the last Oberliga Niederrhein season. Coach Samir Sisic will also be at the helm next season.

For a long time, it looked as though TSV Meerbusch would be competing in the Landesliga Niederrhein next season. However, after coach Samir Sisic took over, TSV picked up 16 points from their last eight games and managed to stay in the Oberliga Niederrhein after all.

Sisic will also be on the sidelines in Meerbusch in the coming season. He doesn’t want to throw his somewhat defensive approach overboard in the coming season: “I don’t intend to significantly change what has been successful.”

However, he does not want to neglect the offense: “Of course, we will now give offensive issues more time. With only eight games to go, we couldn’t focus on both in this rescue mission. We will focus on both in a balanced way.”

Different objectives in the new season

Last season, the Oberliga Niederrhein proved to be a close and balanced competition. Sisic cites the example of VfB Homberg, who would have slipped into the relegation battle if they had lost on match day 27. In the end, Homberg finished in fifth place.

This is another reason why the coach wants to take a slightly different approach to setting goals in the coming season: “I don’t like to bake small rolls. But since success and failure are very close together in this league, the goal is to get as many points as possible,” he explains

So he has set his team the goal of looking at every game individually and wanting to win every game. He therefore did not talk about a desired position in the table.

Squad planning going as hoped

The topic of squad planning is also still present. However, Sisic is satisfied with the talks so far: “With the exception of one or two players, we were able to keep everyone we wanted to keep. With two, it’s still up in the air whether they will stay.”

He did not mention the names, but did reveal that the players have been linked with clubs from higher leagues. For the head coach, however, this is acceptable, as he attaches great importance to ensuring that there are no internal league transfers. Sisic can come to terms with departures to a higher division.

“The guys who are with us want to stay because of the reasonable sporting quality, but also because of the feel-good environment in which we say we have a good atmosphere.”

A few transfers have also already been bagged, although they have not yet been officially announced. New additions to TSV can therefore be expected in the coming weeks
