District league team looking forward to Bielefeld – 1st round draw at a glance

The first round of the Westfalenpokal was drawn on Thursday evening at the Schüco-Arena in Bielefeld. A real top duel did not take place.

The draw for the first round of the 2024/25 Westfalenpokal took place on Thursday evening at the Schüco Arena in Bielefeld. As in the previous year, the 64 participants were divided into four groups in advance, each of which could only be drawn among themselves. In contrast to last season, however, these groups will not be retained until the semi-finals this time. From the round of 16 onwards, the four teams that have won their group up to that point will be placed in a 16-team draw.

This year, three of the top favorites – third-division team Arminia Bielefeld and the two regional league teams SV Rödinghausen and FC Gütersloh – ended up in Group 4. Group 3 was also a tough one with SC Verl (3rd division), SC Wiedenbrück (regional league) and the two regional league relegated teams SV Lippstadt and Rot Weiss Ahlen.

The two Regionalliga promoted teams Sportfreunde Lotte in Group 1 and Türkspor Dortmund in Group 2 fared much better, each having to fear at most one of three Oberliga clubs in the draw.

District league side Lipperreihe can look forward to Bielefeld

However, all the top teams were spared a real cracker in round 1. The district league team TuS Lipperreihe received the golden ticket with the big DSC Arminia Bielefeld. On paper at least, the task for the second third division team SC Verl, who have to play Westfalenliga side FSC Rheda, is likely to be somewhat more difficult.

The roles in the regional league matches are similarly clear. Rödinghausen (SV Höxter) and Türkspor (TuS Harpen) both travel to Bezirksliga clubs, FC Gütersloh face Landesliga side Hövelhofer SV and Westfalenliga side SuS Neuenkirchen await Sportfreunde Lotte.

Meanwhile, the Westfalenliga clash between promoted SV Vestia Disteln and runners-up Westfalia Kinderhaus promises to be particularly exciting. Sportfreunde Siegen also face an unpleasant task when they travel to last year’s fifth-placed team in Westfalenliga 2, RSV Meinerzhagen.
