After RWO defeat – a lot of work for disappointed Cornelissen

After being relegated from the Oberliga Niederrhein, Adler Union Frintrop started their preparations. They suffered a heavy 0:9 defeat against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen

After four days of preparation, relegated Oberliga side Adler Union Frintrop were deservedly defeated 0:9 (0:5) by Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. However, disappointed coach Marcel Cornelissen refused to accept the fact that preparation had only begun a few days ago as an excuse

“That was the wrong opponent at the wrong time,” was how the Frintrop coach summed up the 9-0 defeat against RWO. “They’ve been preparing for three weeks, we’ve only been here a few days.” This was clear to see, as RWO were superior to the hosts in every respect.

Nevertheless, Cornelissen was annoyed: his team were behind after just four minutes thanks to goals from Cottrell Ezekwem and Kerem Yalcin. “Of course we had changed our minds. You could tell how fit, fresh and dynamic they were. Nevertheless, you can and must present yourself differently than we did. That was far too little in all areas. “

Frintrop were unfortunately relegated from the Oberliga on the final matchday last season and are now set to rebuild in the Landesliga. There was no major upheaval, but many young players are to be integrated. After the first week, it is still too early for Cornelissen to draw any conclusions.

We still have to show the young players in particular how we want to play soccer.

Marcel Cornelissen
“On a personal level, it’s an immediate success, the boys were all on the pitch by 10 a.m.,” said the head coach. “In sporting terms, we have to introduce a few players. We don’t have any new recruits with 300 senior league games under their belts who can show us how to play successful soccer. We still have to show the young players in particular how we want to play soccer. “

So there is still a lot of work to be done for the Eagles; accordingly, Cornelissen was not yet able to set a focus for the coming weeks. In general, everything needs to be worked on. The good news is that there are still five whole weeks to go, with the first round of the Lower Rhine Cup starting on the second weekend in August (11.08.).

More test matches await – more at eye level?

After the difficult test match opener, at least opponents who should be more on a par with Frintrop now await. Cornelissen’s team will play two more tests in the coming week; on Thursday, July 11, at 7:30 p.m. against BV Rentfort. Three days later, another home game against SV Rot-Weiss Mülheim awaits at 3 p.m.
