Positive conclusion – but Dabrowski sees “room for improvement” here

Rot-Weiss Essen have completed the fourth day of their training camp. Christoph Dabrowski then answered questions from Forecasting and WAZ.

Rot-Weiss Essen’s training camp is drawing to a close. On Friday, the third division team completed training sessions number six and seven. Coach Christoph Dabrowski drew a positive conclusion after the second training session on Friday afternoon.

“In terms of workload and exertion, it went exactly according to plan. No player is out due to injury, which is positive. And on the first day of the training camp, I talked about priorities, which we implemented well and are now one step further,” explained the head coach.

Dabrowski continued: “We also have a drone with us, so you can take another look at the whole thing: There were already some very good situations in there, just as we imagine. Hopefully we’ll see some of that in the test match, despite the fatigue. The amount of work was high, but that was intentional. Accordingly, we worked very hard and had a lot of fun doing it.” The aforementioned test match will take place on Saturday in private.

26 players took part in the training camp, including five U19 players. “You can see that the U19 boys still need something. That’s why there are still fluctuations in some situations. But the boys who are an integral part of our squad are doing really well. That’s why I’m satisfied with the level of preparation,” emphasized the 46-year-old.

There’s still room for improvement up front in terms of determination

RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski

Noticeable in the training camp: Defensively, things are already looking good, but the necessary determination and precision is still lacking up front in the final third. Dabrowski has also taken note of this: “There’s still room for improvement up front in terms of determination. Playing with the ball in preparation, when you’re tired, it doesn’t always look smooth, we’ve worked a lot on that now – and at some point the automatisms will come. The boys know where we want to go and in the opponent’s half, intuition, creativity and also quality are required if you want to achieve certain quotas as a player.”

It is no longer a secret that RWE are looking to strengthen their attack with three players at best. Those responsible are also still looking for a counterpart to Leonardo Vonic at striker.

Dabrowski has a clear profile in mind: “With Leo Vonic, we have a talented striker who also has a playful profile. Sure, a wall player with depth and quality, with a quota – that would be another one if we were on ‘Make a Wish’ (laughs). We’ll have to see. “

It’s not the starting line-up now because we want to try out a few things. There are five or six players who I assume will be there on the first matchday, but there’s still competition in a few positions. We still want to gather impressions.

RWE actually wanted to play four 30-minute games in the test match on Saturday, but the normal playing time will be twice 45 minutes. The Essen coach explains the plan for the last training camp session:

“We’ll let some players play a bit more, with one or two we have a half-time in mind. But some will play longer because we want to get in more minutes now. It’s not the starting line-up now because we want to try out a few things. There are five or six players who I assume will be there on the first matchday, but there is still competition in a few positions. We still want to gather impressions. “
