MSV faces mega setback: Jander about to move to Nuremberg

A major setback for MSV Duisburg at the start of the new year: according to media reports, top talent Caspar Jander is about to leave the club.

According to media reports, Caspar Jander (20), midfielder for third-tier soccer team MSV Duisburg, is about to move to second-division club 1. FC Nürnberg. The contract is expected to be signed in the coming days. This was reported by the Kieler Nachrichten on New Year’s Day. According to reports, Holstein Kiel had also recently been interested in the 20-year-old.

Caspar Jander’s contract with MSV expires in the summer. The U-20 international could then move on a free transfer. A contract extension at MSV is considered unrealistic. According to media reports, however, it remains to be seen whether Jander will move to the Noris now or will only wear the club jersey in the coming season. Even if MSV Duisburg wants to invest money in new players in the winter transfer phase, the loss of Jander would be a blow to the team’s fight against relegation, as the team would lose quality.

MSV Duisburg also lost Julian Hettwer in the summer

The team from Meiderich are a bit of a hotchpotch in this respect: MSV sold talented Julian Hettwer to Borussia Dortmund in the summer. Hettwer plays for BVB’s U23s in the 3rd division. Although Duisburg paid a transfer fee, they lost an important attacking player. Added to this was the departure of veteran Moritz Stoppelkamp – MSV was unable to compensate for all of this in its attacking department.

MSV president Ingo Wald stated at a press conference on December 19 that he was not aware of any offers for Caspar Jander. At the same time, MSV coach Boris Schommers confirmed that he expected Jander to continue playing for MSV in the second series of the season. However, the 44-year-old was under no illusions that the Münster native could stay in Duisburg beyond the summer.

MSV Duisburg starts training on Wednesday

MSV Duisburg will resume training after the short Christmas break on Wednesday, January 3, at 3 p.m. at the club grounds on Westender Straße. Incidentally, Caspar Jander will not be playing for any club on the first matchday after the winter break. He picked up his fifth yellow card in MSV’s 4:2 win over SC Freiburg II and is suspended for the next match
