After three defeats in a row, 1. FC Düren take three points against Kaan-Marienborn in the Regionalliga West. Now comes a test against a third-league team.
For the promoted 1. FC Düren there was not much to celebrate lately. However, after three defeats in a row, coach Giuseppe Brunetto’s team managed to win again on matchday 9 of the Regionalliga West. In the home match against fellow promoted team 1. FC Kaan-Marienborn, the team from Düren won 3:0 (3:0) and inflicted only the second defeat on Kaan.
“With three defeats in a row, it’s clear that you want to be more compact,” Brunetto explained his team’s style of play. “In the last games we played with a lot of attacking pressing, then after conceding nine goals in three games we changed the system and the alignment.” And with success: For the first time in a month, Düren kept a clean sheet at the back after 90 minutes.
David Mikel Bors, Yannik Schlösser and Meik Kühnel scored the goals. “Of course it played into our favour that we were very effective, but nevertheless the team played very passionately. The basic virtues such as willingness to run against and with the ball were right,” said Brunetto in praise of his promoted team, who are currently in fifth place after nine games, comfortably ahead of the relegation places.
“We have to learn that you always have to give everything, that’s what the game yesterday showed. In this league, you have to put everything on the pitch to take home points,” said Brunetto. That’s why we’re already looking ahead to the next Regionalliga match (Sunday, 2 October). Rot-Weiß Oberhausen is a big name on the schedule.
“Oberhausen did not start as they had planned. Nevertheless, they will quickly get out of this negative streak,” Brunetto assesses the upcoming opponent and also praises colleague Mike Terranova. “The team was certainly expected to be among the top three or four teams. They have a lot of potential and a very good coach who will get them back on track. For us, we have to be compact again in Oberhausen and give them as little space as possible up front.” Before that, however, 1. FC Düren will use the match-free weekend to test themselves at third-division side 1. FC Saarbrücken on Saturday (24 September).
