Captain Anthony Losilla spoke after VfL Bochum’s first home win about the relief, his post crack and his teammates in the center.
“I rarely score goals, so I always have to score dream goals so that people remember it,” joked Anthony Losilla last season. It almost happened again in the 3:1 (2:1) against Wolfsburg.
“What can I say? I just have to shoot more accurately next time.” In hindsight, the Bochum captain could laugh about the fact that the ball only crashed against the left post after his volley. In the end, VfL got their first home win of the season even without a Losilla dream goal.
“We’ve been waiting a long time for this and you can see what’s going on here.” ‘Oh, how beautiful’ and ‘Never again 2nd division’ rang out even before the final whistle. “We have to take this mood with us to pick up the next points in the three games before the winter break.”
Despite a five-match unbeaten run, there were expressions of displeasure here and there from the media and fans after the games against Cologne and Heidenheim. “There’s always criticism when you don’t win,” says Losilla. “Nevertheless, it is of course positive that we haven’t lost a game for a long time. “

The difference to previous games: The chances that presented themselves were taken. “We’ve rarely scored three goals, but maybe that will give us the confidence to be dangerous in attack again in the next few games.”
VfL Bochum: Losilla, Osterhage and Bero? That works
In addition, the recovered Matus Bero, a player who, like Losilla, is not afraid of a duel, was on the pitch. “Everyone knows that Matus is a player who plays very intensively, makes the runs forward and also helps out defensively.”
Together with Osterhage, whose form has been on a steep upward curve for weeks, and Kevin Stöger, the Bochum side stole the thunder from the visitors in the center for long stretches. “We are players who are aggressive and bring a lot of intensity onto the pitch. We wanted to win this battle in the middle and I think that was a key in this game.”
Bochum almost fell back into familiar patterns: Despite a superior first half, a shot on goal shortly before the break was enough for the visitors from Wolfsburg to make it 2-1. “That came out of nowhere. We actually had our opponents under control, attacked high up the pitch, won the ball well and switched the game around.”
In the second 45 minutes, the fear of once again squandering a lead in the Ruhrstadion also played a part. “We’re naturally focused on the game in moments like that, but I think that’s unconsciously in our heads. Then we’re suddenly too defensive and stand deeper than usual.”
Wolfsburg became more dangerous, but either a Bochum leg or keeper Manuel Riemann was on hand – until joker Christopher Antwi-Adjei finally redeemed the blue and whites after 87 minutes. “Fortunately, we had the last punch up front at the end to make it 3:1.” Losilla can save the dream goal for another time
