Closing time at the Römerstraße! All players are free to go

Somehow it had been hinted at, on Friday all players should get the message: SV Straelen will withdraw from the Oberliga.

This is a real bombshell! As Forecasting learned from the SV Straelen team, the people in charge around boss Hermann Tecklenburg have decided to draw a line under it.

In other words: According to RS information, SV Straelen will withdraw from the Oberliga Niederrhein with immediate effect!

On Friday afternoon, around 4 p.m., this news is to be officially communicated to all players and employees of the third team in the Oberliga Niederrhein. The players are then allowed to leave Straelen without paying transfer fees. Most recently, the team is said to have considered a strike due to missing salaries from December 2023. This will now no longer be necessary.

On Thursday evening, our editorial team was unable to reach either sports director Kevin Wolze or president Tecklenburg. Captain Luca Thissen did not want to comment on this topic to our editorial team and quickly hung up the phone.

Just a few days ago, Tecklenburg emphasized to the “RP”: “We will not part with any players now. The team will fly to the training camp in Turkey at the beginning of February as agreed and will then play the rest of the season as normal.” From February 3 to 9, coach Sunay Acar was supposed to prepare the team for the remaining matches in Belek, Turkey. But he too will have to look for a new club instead.

Tecklenburg is said to have believed in continuing the season until the very end and fought for it. Until he was forced to face reality: the entrepreneur is said to be in too bad a way financially and in terms of his health to continue to take care of his “baby” SV Straelen in the Oberliga.

The 75-year-old businessman recently emphasized that he did not want to comment on the future at Römerstraße beyond the 2023/2024 season: “Now it’s about the future of the company, then comes private life and maybe thirdly comes football.”

And on the subject of football, there will be clarity on Friday, January 19, 2024: that’s when the Römerstraße will close as far as the Oberliga football is concerned.
