Felix Herzenbruch has found a new club

Felix Herzenbruch returns to the football scene. The central defender will play the second half of the season in the Regionalliga West.

At the end of October, Felix Herzenbruch announced his plans for the future in the forecasting interview. At the time, the 31-year-old, who was without a club at the time, said: “My goal is to find a new club by the winter break.”

No sooner said than done. As RS has learned, Herzenbruch will join SSVg Velbert for the second half of the season. The former crowd favorite of Rot-Weiss Essen will thus be lacing up his boots again in the Regionalliga West. The uncompromising central defender had already played 212 games in this league for RWE, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Wuppertaler SV.

When asked by this editorial team, Herzenbruch confirmed his move to Velbert. The family man signed a contract until the end of the season:

The job at SSVg Velbert is a perfect fit for my life – both privately and professionally with my studies and in terms of football. Velbert plays in the Regionalliga and the club trains in the evenings. It was simply the most logical alternative for me.

Felix Herzenbruch.

“I then decided to lace up my football boots again. The job at SSVg Velbert fits perfectly into my life – both privately and professionally with my studies and football. Velbert play in the Regionalliga and train in the evenings, so it was the most logical alternative for me. I’ve signed a contract to cover the rest of the season and I’m pleased to be back on the pitch week in, week out.”

Velbert are bottom of the Regionalliga West table at the halfway point. They are seven points from safety, although they do have a game in hand on Borussia Mönchengladbach II.

With Felix Herzenbruch, the promoted team has now caused a stir on the transfer market. After all, the experienced defender was still a member of the starting lineup for third division team Rot-Weiss Essen last year (a total of 74 third division games). Now “Herze” is supposed to lead his new club to avoid relegation.
