Union coach self-critical after scandal – and with reproach to Sané

At the rescheduled game between FC Bayern and Union Berlin, there was a scandal involving Nenad Bjelica, who grabbed Leroy Sané in the face.

In terms of sport, the game between FC Bayern and Union Berlin was a bit of a snooze in the second half – but one scene in particular heated up the atmosphere: guest coach Nenad Bjelica clashed with Bayern star Leroy Sané, grabbing him twice in the face.

After the game, which Union Berlin lost 0-1 in Munich, the Croatian was self-critical. However, he also criticized Sané and his behavior. “I want to get the ball and give it to Sané,” said Bjelica, explaining the scene himself. “He pushed me in my zone.” This scene was the trigger for the reaction. He was also upset because Union Berlin had not been awarded a penalty when Bayern’s Konrad Laimer cleared Kevin Behrens in the penalty area.

Nevertheless, Bjelica admitted: “What I did is not okay, it cannot be tolerated. I understand the red card.” A scrum developed in front of the 1. FC Union Berlin dugout, as players and club staff tried to separate the two hotheads. They succeeded.

After the game, Bjelica apologized to his team, as he will definitely be missing next Sunday’s important game against Darmstadt 98. “I have to apologize to my team. But not to Sané, who comes into my space to provoke me,” he said, referring to the German international. His player Kevin Vogt supported the Croatian. “It was well provoked,” said Vogt on Sky.

The catch-up game was narrowly won by FC Bayern 1-0. But after this victory agony, nobody cheered for the record champions. Three days after the Bremen shock, the Munich team only managed a meager result on Wednesday. The stars around scorer Raphael Guerreiro breathed a sigh of relief after a heated final phase with red for guest coach Nenad Bjelica.
