Boris Schommers – “It gives us courage to do it collectively”

MSV Duisburg showed great spirit in Ulm. But one point from the late 2-2 draw is not enough in the relegation battle. That’s what Boris Schommers and last-minute scorer Robin Müller say.

The fact that this is not actually enough to put the pressure on the competition was also felt when the players thanked the 450 supporters who had traveled with them before the game, when the players thanked them for their support.

Defending set pieces remains one of the biggest problems this season. After the 0-2 with the first successful Ulm action in the second half, everything pointed to the third defeat in the third game in the new year. The Ulm fans, who are friends with Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, could already be heard singing “We’re going up and you’re going down”.

But MSV continued to play forward after Tim Köther’s lucky equalizer and late equalizer from substitute Robin Müller in the second minute of stoppage time, but in the end it was no longer enough for the all-important three points. “It feels great and gives us hope for the next games,” said scorer Müller on Magenta Sport.

You could see that the team is alive and we continue to believe in ourselves. That gives us the courage to succeed as a collective.

His coach Boris Schommers noted that his offensive player showed the conviction that he lacked in his good chance against Halle in the decisive scene.

“Of course, the point was lucky. But we’ve had so much bad luck and we’re happy that we were rewarded for our hard work. We didn’t defend aggressively at the beginning. Ulm didn’t close the bag after going 2-1 up and we tried everything despite the setbacks,” analyzed the coach.

Even though the gap to safety is now seven points, the coach continued to exude optimism. “The point is worth a lot. You could see that the team is alive and we continue to believe in it. That gives us courage to make it as a collective.”

Next Sunday, the league leaders SSV Jahn Regensburg will be coming to the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena. To take the all-important three points there, it will probably not work without the necessary amount of luck.
