Fürth redeem themselves against Paderborn – FCK pick up another point

Bundesliga relegated SpVgg Greuther Fürth have achieved the hoped-for liberation – and against the previous league leaders, of all people.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth, relegated from the Bundesliga, achieved the hoped-for liberation – and against the previous league leader, of all teams. After eight games without a win, the cloverleaf deserved to win 2-1 (1-0) against SC Paderborn and gain some peace before the international break.

The draw kings of 1. FC Kaiserslautern also earned their next point on Sunday with a 2-2 (1-2) draw at 1. FC Heidenheim. FC St. Pauli lost 0:2 (0:2) at previously struggling rivals Jahn Regensburg.

Fürth finally managed the longed-for first win of the season. This was especially important for coach Marc Schneider, whose chair had already been wobbling.

Damian Michalski scored the opening goal in the 42nd minute. Dennis Srbeny (49th) equalised before Branimir Hrgota (73rd) scored the celebrated 2:1. For Paderborn, the second defeat of the season was a setback in the fight for the top places.

Kaiserslautern remain within striking distance of the top group. It was the fourth draw in a row for coach Dirk Schuster’s team.

Heidenheim, celebrating the 15th anniversary of their coach Frank Schmidt, missed out on a place in the relegation zone. After goals from Jan-Niklas Beste (17th) and Marnon Busch (44th), Terrence Boyd (20th/60th) brought the Palatinate back twice. FCK goalkeeper Andreas Luthe was sent off with a red card after an emergency foul (41st).

Andreas Albers (8.) scored the lead for Regensburg, who had remained without a win in the previous six games, via a penalty kick in front of 12,124 spectators. Christian Viet, who had been under contract with St. Pauli until last year, was brought down in the penalty area. Shortly before the break, it was again the Regensburg duo who went up for the hosts. After Viet’s cross, Albers headed home a brace (41st).
