Holstein Kiel have once again relinquished points in the race for promotion to the Bundesliga after conceding a late goal.

Coach Marcel Rapp’s team only managed a 1:1 (1:0) draw at 1. FC Magdeburg, but still jumped to second place in the table for the time being. Meanwhile, Karlsruher SC’s winning streak came to an end: after three consecutive victories, they only managed a 2:2 (1:0) draw against SV Wehen Wiesbaden.

On Friday, Timo Becker (27th) put the visitors on course after a mix-up in the FCM penalty area. Timon Weiner also saved a hand penalty from Luc Castaignos (55th) and made several strong saves in the closing stages. Emir Kuhinja (90.+6) ensured a late but well-deserved equalizer. The FCM thus secured important points for avoiding relegation.

Budu Siwsiwadse (35′) and Igor Matanovic (53′) put KSC, who had recently caused an upset with a turbulent 4-3 win at Hamburger SV, in the lead twice. But Wiesbaden struck back: Ivan Prajin (48′) and Nick Bätzner (74′) equalized for the committed visitors, taking advantage of KSC goalkeeper Patrick Drewes’ mistakes.

With 28 points, KSC remains in the position of the pursuer, with Kiel already eight points away. Seven points separate the Baden team from the relegation place – however, SpVgg Greuther Fürth is still in action later on in the matchday. Wiesbaden remains in 11th place.

Wiesbaden almost managed to turn the game around in the 83rd minute. Referee Tom Bauer initially awarded a penalty for the visitors, but reversed his decision after viewing the video footage.
