SGS Essen lose narrowly to Eintracht Frankfurt

The Eintracht Frankfurt women’s soccer team continue to be in the top flight of the Bundesliga. They managed a narrow victory against Essen.

The Eintracht Frankfurt women’s soccer team consolidated third place in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 (0-0) victory against SGS Essen. On Sunday evening, national player Sara Doorsoun scored in the 62nd minute to earn the Hessians a well-deserved victory, who now have 26 points to their name.

In the battle for a Champions League place, Eintracht extended their lead over their pursuers TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to six points. In addition, Niko Arnautis’ team closed the gap to league leaders VfL Wolfsburg (29) to three points, although Wolfsburg could still be overtaken on Monday by title defenders Bayern Munich (27).

Frankfurt had a tough time against Essen for long periods of the game. A set-piece was needed to decide the game. After a corner, striker Laura Freigang’s header initially struck the Essen defense, with Doorsoun tapping the rebound into the net from a few meters out.
