Schommers’ frustration with the referee is huge – but that gives the trainer hope

Boris Schommers was once again extremely dissatisfied with the performance of the referee after the defeat against Regensburg.

As was the case against Halle, Boris Schommers was whistled at once again when the team line-up was read out. After the 90 minutes in front of almost 9,000 spectators, the disillusionment was great, while the guests from Regensburg celebrated extensively with loud music in the dressing room after the 1-0 win before the seven-hour drive home.

“We showed from the first minute that we wanted to look for our chances and play brave football against the absolute league leaders,” analyzed Schommers, who felt disadvantaged by the way the decisive goal was scored by Elias Huth after 35 minutes. ‘The goal was very offside,’ said the 45-year-old, and continued his criticism.

In the decisive 50-50 situations, his team was whistled against week after week. Schommers, in his emotion, again referred to the foul on Santiago Castaneda before the 2-2 of Hallescher FC a week and a half ago. The foul on Caspar Jander, who had to leave the field injured at half-time, also fit into his picture.

“That was another one of those situations. Tackles and fouls are part of the game, but the fact that the referee had no line in the game is extremely bitter. In Cas’s case, it was a foul worthy of a yellow card that led to a knee injury. We’ll have to wait and see the details. On top of that, there was the same foul twice on the center line. He gives us the yellow card immediately. The opponent doesn’t get it. Once again, the yardstick has been applied unevenly. I think that’s a shame,” said Schommers.

The former Kaiserslautern player had no criticism of his team’s commitment. But with a gap of eight points to a non-relegation spot, hope is fading for many fans with 14 games remaining in the season. The coach continues to believe that they will avoid relegation.

“We played the league leaders, who are rightfully at the top and have brutal power and physicality, completely on par for 90 minutes. We had a similar number of chances and more corners. We have to continue on this path,” Schommers looked ahead.
