Relegation candidate announces – after the coach, the managing director must also go

There is still no calm at third division club Waldhof Mannheim. After the recent change of coach, the managing director has now been dismissed. A decision with a history.

SV Waldhof Mannheim kept a low profile on social media on Tuesday (February 6, 2024) when the club announced the dismissal of managing director Markus Kompp.

“The supervisory board of SV Waldhof Mannheim 07 Spielbetriebs GmbH announces that Markus Kompp has been dismissed as managing director of the company with immediate effect,” it said in three lines. Three hashtags.

There is no more from the club. It is also not known who will succeed Kompp. At least the decision itself is not surprising. At the beginning of December, it was decided that Kompp’s contract, which runs until June 30, 2025, would not be extended. At the general meeting, fans had demanded his sacking.

Waldhof are doing badly in the league. They are 17th in the table, which means they are in the first relegation place. In contrast to MSV Duisburg, who are in 19th place and seven points behind the safety line, Mannheim are looking at 16th place. They are just one point behind Halleschen FC.

Waldhof Mannheim recently changed their coach

Last week, Mannheim had already dismissed coach Rüdiger Rehm. Marco Antwerpen was presented as his successor at the traditional club.

The 53-year-old brings with him experience from 132 matches in the 3rd division from his time in Mannheim. He has an average of 1.59 points per game. Antwerpen is supported by Frank Döpper, who was already Antwerpen’s assistant coach during his last engagement at 1. FC Kaiserslautern.

“I’m really looking forward to my new role here at the Waldhof. The initial situation in the table speaks for itself, but we still have enough games left in the season and the necessary quality in the squad to turn things around. Now it’s a matter of strengthening the team with positive impulses and achieving sporting success,” said Antwerpen of his new job.

His first game in charge saw the team draw 2-2 against SC Preußen Münster. Next up for Mannheim is a tough away game. On Saturday, February 10, at 2:00 p.m., they will face third-place SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball.
