Kaan Inanoglu and Emre Cil from MSV Duisburg and Berkant Gedikli from Rot-Weiss Essen are taking part in a tournament in Croatia with the Turkish U19 team – and so far they have been successful.
The Turkish U19 national team is currently taking part in a friendly tournament in Croatia. With Kaan Inanoglu, Emre Cil (both MSV Duisburg) and Berkant Gedikli (Rot-Weiss Essen), three talents from the Ruhr area are also represented.
All three were first called up to the Turkish squad in January, making their debut in the 3-0 friendly win over Jordan. MSV striker Inanoglu, in particular, stood out, starting alongside RWE right-back Gedikli and scoring a goal right away.
The trio from the Ruhr area also recommended themselves for the current training camp, which the Turkish U19 is holding in Croatia. There, the team of coach Soykan Basar is taking part in an international friendly tournament – and has impressed so far.
Even without Inanoglu, who arrived late due to his appearance against SC Verl in the 3rd division, the team managed a 2-1 victory over Greece at the start of the tournament. Gedikli was in the starting lineup and played for one half, while Cil played for five minutes.
1-0 victory over Scotland with Gedikli and Inanoglu
The team was in action again yesterday. This time, Inanoglu played against the Scottish U19 team. While Cil was left on the bench for the second game of the tournament, Gedikli and Inanoglu both played the full 90 minutes. The Turks were successful again, beating the Scots 1-0.
Cil, who joined the club from Hertha Berlin over the summer and has made 14 Bundesliga appearances for MSV Duisburg so far, is a set starter, as is Gedikli, who has made ten appearances for RWE in the Niederrheinliga this season. Meanwhile, Inanoglu’s performances have even earned him a place in the Zebras’ third division squad.
The training camp concludes on Friday with the clash against Saudi Arabia. While Inanoglu will likely be needed again on Saturday with the MSV professionals against Viktoria Cologne, Cil and Gedikli should have the chance to apply for a place in the squad again for next month’s European Championship qualifier. The Turks will face Germany, among others, there.
