After withdrawing from the Oberliga, even the Landesliga is unlikely to be an option in the future.

SV Straelen has to reposition itself after withdrawing from the Oberliga. This will probably not happen in the Landesliga.

SV Straelen has withdrawn from the Oberliga Niederrhein and has been certain to be relegated since the winter break. This actually means that SVS could continue in the Landesliga Niederrhein.

But that doesn’t seem to be an option for the former regional league club at the moment. Jens Jütten, coach of the Straelen reserves, emphasized to FuPa: “There will definitely be a fresh start for SV Straelen next season – whether it’s in the Kreisliga A or in the Bezirksliga.”

Not a word about the Landesliga at the club, which has to completely reinvent itself after the withdrawal of Hermann Tecklenburg, club boss and patron. After the withdrawal, former coach Sunay Acar spoke of the “bitterest defeat” in his sporting career.

“Of course I know that football is a fast-paced sport. It will continue. But of course the players are devastated too. The fact that the season is ending like this hurts us all extremely and is just painful.”

And now the club, which in 2022 won the Niederrhein Cup in front of over 6,000 spectators by beating Wuppertaler SV in the final, will be relegated at least two leagues down. The club then had a furious DFB Cup game against FC St. Pauli – and only just lost 4-3.

In the future, the new first team’s opponents will be Viktoria Goch, TUS Xanten or Tus Asterlagen. The second team of SV Straelen is currently playing against them. However, with little success, because with only eight points, the Straelen team is nine points behind the first non-relegation place.

It looks as if the SVS reserves will be relegated to the Kreisliga A, which would be the perfect end to the club’s disastrous season. It will be interesting to see how and where the club will be repositioning itself in the summer.
