It can happen so quickly. Three days after an 8:1 victory, Spvgg. Erkenschwick suffered a minor setback in the Oberliga Westfalen, but showed their spirit in the
catch-up game in the Oberliga Westfalen. Spvgg. Erkenschwick hosted Eintracht Rheine, a team fighting against relegation.
In the end, Erkenschwick managed to equalize in the 95th minute – both clubs parted ways with a 2:2 (1:1). The starting position was clear: Rheine is fighting against relegation to the Westfalenliga, having not lost in four of the last five games. And Erkenschwick came with the momentum from their 8:1 win against SG Finnentrop-Bamenohl.
Erkenschwick coach Magnus Niemöller emphasized to RS before the game: “We can’t expect it to always be that high. Nevertheless, we are of course delighted with this outstanding moment.”
And indeed, it quickly became apparent that the game against Rheine would be a more stubborn task. The cellar-dwelling team even took the lead through Luca Meyer. It was not until shortly before half-time that Erkenschwick equalized through Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab’s eleventh goal of the season.
After the break, it was Mayer again who put Rheine in the lead with his fourth goal of the season. And the guest seemed to bring this result home.
But with the last action, the pressure of the hosts was rewarded in the 95th minute. Mike Jordan took a heart and scored in the angle.
Means in the basement of the table. Rheine has now scored 15 points and is unable to escape. It is four points behind SG Wattenscheid (two games less) and last-placed FC Brünninghausen – two teams are relegated at the end of the season.
Erkenschwick’s next game is on Sunday (February 25) at SpVgg Vreden. At the same time, Eintracht Rheine will host second-placed SF Lotte.
