Hard and high: US runners triumph at the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc

With a route length of approx. 170 km, around 10,000 meters of ascent to be overcome and a time limit of 46.5 hours, the UTMB is one of the most demanding mountain marathons in the world.

Jim Walmsley has won the UTMB Mont Blanc Ultra Marathon – in 19 hours, 37 minutes and 43 seconds. He is the first American to win this world-famous race. His fellow American Zach Miller came in second, with Germain Grangier of France in third.

In the women’s race, an American also won, Courtney Dauwalter in 23 hours, 29 minutes, 14 seconds. This is her third victory at Mont Blanc, having won in 2019 and 2021.

Second and third place went to Katharina Hartmuth from Germany and Blandine L. Hirondel from France.

For this reason, only experienced runners who can withstand extremely difficult terrain and weather conditions are allowed to participate.
