The first matchday of Liga F in Spain was canceled, but now it’s starting: after a compromise in the wage dispute, the first division players have ended their strike.
The strike by Spanish female footballers is over – “Liga F” can begin. After a year and a half of negotiations, the unions and employers, female footballers and clubs have agreed on a new collective agreement for Spanish women’s football.
The new collective agreement sets the minimum gross annual salary at €21,000, €22,500 and €23,500 for the next three years, with a salary review to reach a maximum of €28,000, depending on the economic growth of the league, in a country that is now world champion.
Over €20,000 instead of €16,000 salary
The agreement comes after a turbulent few weeks marked by the Rubiales case and his kiss for Jenni Hermoso. The affair even overshadowed the World Cup victory and ended with the dismissal of the federation president and criminal proceedings.
Until now, there has been a minimum salary of €16,000 since 2019. The league wanted to increase this to €20,000, but the union had not initially had its demand of at least €23,000 met. As a result, the players went on strike. The entire first matchday had to be canceled. The new season of the F-League in Spain will now start this weekend.
