Regional league striker scores twice – heavy defeat against Bundesliga club

SC Verl arranged to meet a challenging opponent for a friendly on Thursday. In the end, however, Borussia Mönchengladbach was too strong.

This is not how SC Verl imagined their test match against Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach. The third division club suffered a heavy 5-0 (3-0) defeat against the Foals.

Borussia had a number of first-team players on the pitch, some of whom were to make an appearance. However, Shio Fukuda, who normally plays for the club’s regional league team, got the ball rolling. The offensive man scored the early goal for the foals, assisted by Robin Hack.

It was also Hack who assisted Alassane Plea in the 34th minute. Plea, who is one of the first-team players mentioned above, shot from the turn. Philipp Schulze in the SC Verl goal could not reach it – 0:2.

Florian Neuhaus made it 3:0 for the visitors before half-time, this time from Plea (40′). After the break, Verl suffered further bitter defeats – Fukuda scored again. First he failed, then he pushed the ball over the line while sitting (52nd minute). Three minutes later, Noah Pesch scored the 5:0. On a pass from Neuhaus, he flicked the ball into the left corner (55th minute).

The Gladbach team gained a little self-confidence after a weak start to the season and the most recent 1-2 loss in the league at FC Augsburg. Verl, on the other hand, was able to score again after four games.

Berkan Taz and Eduard Probst scored to give Verl a 2-0 win over Spielvereinigung Unterhaching, who in turn have not won in five matches.

“I’m really happy for the guys. We played well, as we have done in recent weeks, and created chances. A bit of déjà vu at the beginning, with shots going out for a corner, just missing the target. And then you start to worry again. It was really, really important that we kept a clean sheet,” said Alexander Ende, coach of SC Verl, in a conversation with ‘Magenta Sport’, relieved.

This victory was probably much more important to him than the defeat against Borussia Mönchengladbach.

The teams played as follows:

SC Verl: Schulze, Scholze, Gruber, F. Otto, Kijewski, Stark, Gayret, Baack, Taz, Kyeremateng, Onuoha

Bor. Mönchengladbach:

Sippel – Lainer, Friedrich, Weigl, Atty – Sander, Neuhaus, Herrmann, Plea, Hack – Fukuda
