U19 with cup surprise – first wins in derby against Landesliga club

For the ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen, things have been going swimmingly for weeks. There are only victories to report. Now also in the game-free phase in a test game.

Good news for all fans who support ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen. During the week, the ETB’s Lower Rhine League U19 team caused an upset.

In the district cup quarter-finals, the A-youth team of the Oberliga representative defeated the U19 of the Landesliga team of SG Schönebeck. In the U19 Niederrheinliga, the two teams are separated by seven places – the ETB is eleventh, the SGS fourth. The ETB’s 6-4 victory on penalties was all the more surprising.

“It’s always nice to have something positive to report when it comes to our youth players. Now the boys are in the district cup semi-finals. This is a good thing for the players and the club,” said ETB head coach Damian Apfeld, praising the progress of the black and white talents.

Meanwhile, the first team of ETB was also able to report the next victory. After seven threes in a row in the league and advancing to the Niederrheinpokal round of 16, they also continued with a win in the test game.

Landesligist ESC Rellinghausen had no chance in the 4-0 victory for ETB.

Apfeld: “We had some phases where we moved the ball very well. All the players moved very, very well and many were able to gain minutes of game time and thus game practice. That was very important for the upcoming English weeks. That’s why it was a successful test from our point of view. It went exactly as we had imagined.”

The next Oberliga game is on Wednesday (October 16, 7:30 p.m.) at SSVg Velbert – a real top game.
