This speaks for BVB in the U19 derby against Schalke

A dream in men’s football, reality in the A-youth: Borussia Dortmund will face Schalke 04 for the second time this season on Saturday (19.10, 11 a.m.). History speaks in favor of BVB.

On Saturday morning (19.10, 11 a.m.) the U19 derby between Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04 in the DFB youth league will take place at Dortmund’s Hohenbuschei football park.

BVB’s U19s have dominated the league at will so far. All eight games have been won – the goal difference of 32:4 speaks volumes. In view of this dominance, Mike Tullberg, coach of BVB’s U19s, recently spoke of under-challenge and criticized the DFB’s new youth league system.

Only four goals conceded in eight games – never more than one goal conceded per game – these are numbers that are impressive. With a win in the derby, Dortmund can secure early entry into League A and thus overcome the next hurdle on the way to the German championship. Because Preußen Münster, currently fourth in the junior league group C, would then no longer be able to catch up with BVB.

Their rivals from Gelsenkirchen are also well on their way to moving into League A. After Dortmund, Schalke have the second best goal difference and are in third place behind Fortuna Düsseldorf. However, Düsseldorf have already played one more game than the Knappen. A win over BVB would put S04 back in second place, although third place would also mean qualification for League A.

The two rivals have already met once this season. In August, Dortmund won 3-1 away at the Parkstadion. Zaid Amoussou-Tchibara scored Schalke’s opening goal. The 18-year-old scored nine more goals in the subsequent games. With ten goals this season, he is alone at the top of the goal scorers’ list.

The situation is different for BVB’s U19s: 13 different players scored the 32 goals this season. Six Dortmund junior players alone have already scored at least three goals this season. Diego Ngambia Dzonga leads the team’s internal list with six goals this season.

A look at the past few years shows that since the Corona break, BVB has been ahead in the league, but in the cup, S04 regularly knocks the Black and Yellows out of the competition. Last season, Dortmund won both derbies in the league, but lost to Blau-Weiß in the cup.

In the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, Dortmund also mostly beat Schalke in the league, but in both seasons the final stop in the cup was FC Schalke 04. The Knappenschmiede’s talents will do everything in their power to break this series by beating BVB in the league again.
