On Sunday, the women’s Westfalenliga will see the derby between Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund. This is how the BVB coach is approaching the game.
It is indisputably the highlight of the season in the Women’s Westfalenliga so far. FC Schalke 04 is hosting Borussia Dortmund for the Revier derby on Sunday (October 27, 4 p.m.). It doesn’t get much more of a top game than this on match day nine. Schalke is in second place with 23 points, while BVB is in the lead with one point more.
The two teams are meeting for the first time in the Westfalenliga – and the game is also taking place in the venerable Parkstadion. It doesn’t get much more atmospheric than that. The derby at Schalke is also a very special game for the BVB women, of course.
“My personal anticipation is very high and the anticipation in the team is also enormous. Of course it’s a special game that both teams want to win. We want to have a perfect day,” Dortmund head coach Thomas Sulewski told Forecasting in the run-up to the eagerly awaited game.
When asked if the coach had noticed any different tension in his team during this training week, he replied, “So far, I haven’t heard of any different tension. The girls are very focused on every game and have put themselves in a good position through their performances in recent weeks. We are taking a very close look at our opponent and preparing for all eventualities. At the end of the day, however, we want to stick to ourselves and will have a clear plan of how we want to play the game.”
Both teams have scored many goals and conceded few. I expect a game that will live up to the name top game, but will probably also be characterized by tactics.
Thomas Sulewski.
A clear plan will also be necessary, because nothing less than the league lead is at stake. The 34-year-old B-license holder is well aware of this: “Both teams have scored a lot of goals and conceded few. I expect a game that will live up to the name top game, but will probably also be characterized by tactics. In the end, small details can make all the difference.”
When asked when Borussia Dortmund would win this derby, Sulewski responded diplomatically: “…when we score one more goal than our opponent,” emphasized the BVB coach.
