New league leaders – Monheim comes out on top in the top match

1.FC Monheim has come out on top against SC 1911 Kapellen-Erft in the top match of the Landesliga Niederrhein 1, winning 3-1. This means they are now at the top of the table.

Change of scenery in the Landesliga! 1.FC Monheim is back in the driving seat after their 3-1 victory in the top match against SC 1911 Kapellen-Erft.

The game took the full 90 minutes to be really decided. Florian Schikowski finally put the lid on it with his 3-1 goal in the 90th minute.

Before the summit meeting, 1.FC Monheim coach Dennis Ruess had already mentioned to Forecasting that the Oberliga relegated team is not aiming to avoid relegation. The aim is to get promoted.

By taking the lead on the 18th matchday, the first step in the right direction has already been taken: “It was important for us to get the three points first of all. From my point of view, the victory was also not undeserved. You could tell that we were the more objective and mature team. In the first half, we dominated the game and should have gone 1-0 up. That’s how Kapellen-Erft got back into the game with the goal just before half-time. They had a brutal pace offensively. So we tried to be stable after that and then worked for the victory in the second half with a concentrated performance. But the championship is far from decided. So much can still happen. There will probably only be a real trend in our group five to six match days before the end.”

We have now established ourselves as one of the favorites, and every team comes into the game against you with even more motivation. We accept that now and see it as a great challenge.

Fabian Nellen

Kapellen-Erft on the opposite side of the table loses the lead for the first time since the 7th match day.

But for coach Fabian Nellen, that’s no reason to panic: “Of course we would have liked to have won, but no, no reason to panic. We showed a good game within our possibilities. In the end, you have to admit that Monheim is simply better in every position. We continue to look from game to game and our goal is to stay up there as long as possible. This weekend we play against 1.FC Viersen, which will also be uncomfortable. We have now developed a kind of favorite role and every team comes with even more motivation into the game against you. We accept that now and see it as a great challenge.”
