The league leaders were challenged in both regional leagues on Friday evening. While things are getting exciting in Westphalia, Baumberg remain in command in the Lower Rhine region.
The onset of winter in North Rhine-Westphalia has also led to some cancellations in the regional leagues. (Overview). On Friday evening (December 1st), two games were on the program, one each in Westphalia and on the Lower Rhine.
The game in the Westfalen Oberliga was a real top game: league leaders VfL Sportfreunde Lotte hosted third-placed SV Schermbeck. Six points separated the two before the game. And the guests can feel like the winners of the match day after a hard-fought game, with Schermbeck winning 3-2 (2-1) after 90 minutes.
At the beginning of the game, it looked as if the league leaders could win their fourth game in a row. In the 24th minute, Yassin Ibrahim put the Sportfreunde in the lead after a Schermbeck corner and the following counterattack. The SVS turned it around through Hendrik Christian Löbler (30th) and Timur Karagülmez (42nd) to take a 2-1 lead into the break.
In the 78th minute, the game was completely open again: Halil Can Dogan equalized and brought the lottery back into the game. Nevertheless, the guests took the victory. In the end, Miles Grumann’s goal to make it 3:2 (85th) rewarded SVS for their hard work with three points.
Leader does its homework
In the Oberliga Niederrhein, the league leaders fared much better and were able to celebrate a clear home win in the end. Sportfreunde Baumberg beat tenth-placed Union Nettetal 3-0 (1-0) and continue to lead the way.
Enes Topal (32nd) put the Baumbergers on the road to victory in the first half. A yellow-red card against the guests (70th) then finally broke Nettetal’s neck, with Subaru Nishimura (71st) and Baris Sarikaya (74th) deciding the game in just a few minutes.
With one game in hand on their pursuers, Sportfreunde Baumberg now have an eight-point lead over Germania Ratingen, who are scheduled to play Sportfreunde Hamborn on Sunday (December 3, 3 p.m.).
