Things went haywire at Rot-Weiss Essen, especially just before half-time, and VfL also took a point with them. Meanwhile, MSV had to admit defeat.
After FC Schalke 04 already beat Arminia Bielefeld 2-0 on Saturday, moving one point ahead of Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the top overnight, the Werkself were challenged at home against Fortuna Düsseldorf on Sunday morning. In theory, it was a clear-cut case for the still unbeaten Leverkusen against the 11th of the U17 Bundesliga West – in practice, however, it looked different.
Leverkusen missed 90 minutes of the game against Düsseldorf without managing to take the lead, so the game ended 0-0. This means that Schalke and Bayer 04 are now tied for first place in the table, but Schalke are in first place due to their goal difference, which is six goals better.
BVB narrowly beat RWO
Borussia Dortmund’s U17 team are the new first pursuers, reducing the gap to five points with a 1-0 away win at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. Nick Cherny scored the golden goal of the day (38′). Meanwhile, RWO have to look down. They are just two points clear of Viktoria Cologne, who are in the relegation places. Bielefeld, with one game less played, are three points behind Oberhausen.
VfL Bochum, on the other hand, have dropped to fourth place. At SC Paderborn, currently fifth, everything even looked like a defeat early on. Kayonte George (16th) and Pedro Restrepo Naranjo (45th) put the SCP 2-0 up at half-time. In the second half, however, right-back Kacper Koscierski turned on and with a double gave David Siebers’ team a point (63rd/86th).
RWE: Preßler scores three goals
The game between Rot-Weiss Essen, who were in sixth place going into the matchday, and Viktoria Cologne (previously 13th), also ended in a draw, but with twice as many goals. In a turbulent game at Seumannstraße, the teams ended the game with a 4-4 draw.
Thierry Abessouguie gave Cologne the lead in the 6th minute. In the minutes before half-time, events then unfolded rapidly. First, Boran Özbek (45th minute) and Mats Preßler (45+1st minute) turned the game around with a double strike. But before the half-time whistle, Viktoria’s Keny Rakowiecki scored to make it 2:2 (45+2nd minute).
RWE got off to a better start in the second half and took the lead through Preßler from the penalty spot. However, the visitors did not give up and even turned the game around again. Felix Albers (69th minute) and Abessouguie, who scored again, ensured that it looked like an unexpected away win until shortly before the end. However, the man of the match, Preßler, had the last word, scoring his personal hat-trick in the third minute of stoppage time to make the final score 4:4.
Duisburg lose to Gladbach
MSV Duisburg, on the other hand, suffered their next setback. The Zebras lost 2-0 at Borussia Mönchengladbach. After a goalless first half, Christos Venos (60th minute) and Mathieu Nguefack (83rd minute) scored for the Foals.
