Referee frustration for Arslan after yellow card – “Never experienced anything like it”

Rot-Weiss Essen drew 1-1 against SV Sandhausen. This means that RWE remains in 16th place in the table. Ahmet Arslan praised his team.

Ahmet Arslan is a man of clear words. The playmaker of Rot-Weiss Essen is known for that. After the 1-1 draw against SV Sandhausen, Arslan addressed a clear message to referee Assad Nouhoum.

The reason: Essen’s midfielder saw the yellow card in the second half, it was number five this season. This means he is suspended for the upcoming away game in Saarbrücken (December 1, 4:30 p.m.).

Arslan reacted with a lack of understanding in the subsequent interview in the catacombs. “That’s unbelievable. Jakob Lewald, Sandhausen’s captain, went up to him and said, ‘Arslan didn’t say a word’. And yet I get a yellow card. I’ve never experienced anything like it. It’s unbelievable that I’m suspended because of it. I’ve been given plenty of yellow cards for complaining, but in that situation I just walked away. But I don’t want to talk myself into a rage now. It would have happened to me at some point anyway, but it still annoys me,” explained Essen’s number six.

Another situation that annoyed Arslan was the early goal that made the score 0-1. He was involved in that himself, though. The 30-year-old wanted to play to Torben Müsel in front of his own penalty area, but the ball didn’t arrive and just a few seconds later Lucas Wolf’s left-footed shot went into the goal. The cold shower after just 37 seconds.

“I wanted to play into his run, but Torben must have assumed that I was going to knock the ball forward. It was a misunderstanding. I played with Lucas Wolf in Kiel, and he’s never shot with his left foot in his life. We’re currently punishing ourselves for everything,” emphasized Arslan.

Overall, however, the newcomer was satisfied with his team’s performance. He praised the reaction to the early shock, and in the end Leonardo Vonic secured a well-deserved 1-1 draw for RWE:

This is simply a great, big club here. The interaction between the team and the fans works well. If we remain a unit like this, we will get out of it. I have the feeling that we are slowly going in the right direction.

Ahmet Arslan.

“If you’re down, you don’t win games like this. When you’re bursting with energy, you win 4-1. It was a really good performance. So hats off to every player – and also to the support from outside. This is simply a great, big club. The interaction between the team and the fans works well. If we remain a unit, we will get out of this. I have the feeling that we are slowly moving in the right direction.”
