When referee Wolfgang Haslberger called for half-time on Saturday evening, most of the 57,000 spectators at the Volksparkstadion expected a boring second half. Hamburger SV led 2-0 against an error-prone FC Schalke 04 in the atmospheric second-division traditional duel and seemed to only have to hold out to secure the win. But the Royal Blues fought back to earn a point in the end, drawing 2-2 (0-2) and leaving the Hanseatic city as the moral victors. What’s more, HSV coach Steffen Baumgart was fired the day after the game.
