One strong minute was not enough for VfL Osnabrück in Ingolstadt. After the next bankruptcy, VfL threatens to lose touch with the 3rd division.
VfL Osnabrück only managed six wins from 34 games in the second Bundesliga last season. As a result, the traditional club was relegated to the third division.
And here they just can’t find their feet. After 15 match days, VfL are still at the bottom of the table. With only two wins to their name so far, after Sunday’s 4-2 (2-0) defeat at FC Ingolstadt, the Osnabrückers are already six points behind the 16th place in the table, which is currently occupied by Red-White Essen.
And the 90 minutes in Ingolstadt also showed why VfL are currently unable to win – the defeat at FC was their sixth game without a win in a row. Because defensively, there were major problems, which Ingolstadt took advantage of twice through Sebastian Grönning.
And this also revealed further problems at VfL. Shortly before the 0-2 there was a great chance to equalize, but Marcel Costly saved for the home side on the line after a corner.
After the break, VfL made changes to their offense, but after just three minutes, any plans the guests had were in tatters when Grönning scored for the third time – the game was decided early as a result. David Kopacz made it 4-0 – too much for the active Osnabrück fanbase, who left the stadium as a result.
As a result, they also missed a turbulent final phase. VfL did manage to pull a goal back, with Ba-Muaka Simakala converting a free-kick to make it 1:4, and just a minute later Dave Gnaase even scored to make it 2:4.
But the joy did not last long, because shortly afterwards Timo Beermann was shown the red card after a brutal foul on Lukas Fröde. This put the brakes on the comeback.
FC Ingolstadt will be in action again on Friday (November 29, 7 p.m.) at Arminia Bielefeld. VfL Osnabrück will face Alemannia Aachen on Sunday (December 1, 1:30 p.m.) – with a view of the table, it’s almost a must-win game if VfL is to avoid getting into even more trouble.
