SC Velbert, relegated from the Oberliga, did not lose their fifth match in a row. In the top match of the Landesliga at Blau-Weiß Mintard, the Velbert team fought their way to a somewhat fortunate 0:0 in the end.

Even though Velbert, who were third in the table before the match, hit the aluminium twice, it was the hosts from Mintard who had the majority of the scoring chances throughout the match.

All in all, the spectators saw an extremely intense game with a lot of fierce duels and some good scoring chances.

We are absolutely satisfied with this. It’s not always about the result, but also about the how, and my team made a very good impression against Mintard, showed a good mentality and played in a tactically disciplined manner.

A goalless draw of the better kind. That was how SC coach Dennis Czayka saw it after the final whistle. “It was a bit wild at times,” said the 39-year-old. I’m proud of my team because they accepted the task, fought a lot for second balls and were equal. We had three or four very good goal-scoring chances from our interchanges, which is also positive. We still need to take the final step and put those things in, then maybe we’ll win a game like that. But you also have to be fair and say that Mintard could just as easily have put in the lucky punch.”

With eleven points from the first six games, SC Velbert are doing well after the major upheaval caused by relegation, according to Czayka. “We are absolutely satisfied with that. It’s not always about the result, but also about the how, and my team made a very good impression against Mintard, showed a good mentality and played in a tactically disciplined way.”

Now it is important to continue the positive development in the coming weeks – and ideally already in the next match next Sunday against SV Wermelskirchen. “We have a very young team. It’s actually an U21,” the Velbert coach emphasised. “It’s really fun to work with the boys and see how they develop every week. We have now played to nil three times in a row, which also shows that we are becoming more and more stable. The boys are all very talented, but we had to get used to the adult game a little bit, so a game like this was good for us. That was a really good test for us. Now it’s a matter of having more possession and thus a bit more control of the game in the future. But that’s something you have to work on for months. We are patient. “
