KFC Uerdingen ended the advertising measures for its main sponsor, who is now defending himself against accusations and is also considering legal action.
On November 23, 2023, the Lower Rhine Oberliga club KFC Uerdingen addressed an open letter to its fans, stating that main sponsor “dasbob” had not fulfilled its financial obligations.
The consequence: advertising measures were discontinued, legal action was initiated, the contract was terminated and the search for new sponsors has begun. The outstanding amount is said to be around 250,000 euros.
Both the sum and the unannounced way to go public took “dasbob” boss Frank Spasojevic by surprise.
He emphasized to the portal “FuPa”: “We were of course surprised and disappointed by the written termination of the KFC last week. We are especially sorry for the club and the fans that this conflict was carried out publicly by the KFC without consulting us.”
Accordingly, it had been communicated that the main sponsor would pay as soon as a planned capital injection was made. This should be the case in the near future, Spasojevic announced.
In view of the reaction of the Uerdingen club, the “dasbob” boss also reserves the right to take legal action, as he says: “We are currently in the process of legally examining the legality of this termination. We cannot yet comment on this in detail. However, it appears that the sum of 250,000 euros, which KFC has circulated in public, and the deadlines set are both wrong and have no legal basis whatsoever.”
Despite everything, Spasojevic wants to stay connected to the KFC, but whether that is still possible after the turmoil of the last few weeks seems at least questionable. In sporting terms, the hustle and bustle behind the scenes has not harmed the team. Marcus John’s team has won its last six league games.
The seventh win in a row is to be achieved on Saturday (December 9, 6 p.m.) when FC Büderich is the guest in Krefeld.
