The game between Hansa Rostock and FC Schalke 04 was interrupted for half an hour after fan abuse. Now the Rostock police have drawn up a summary of their deployment.
With the 2-0 (0-0) at Hansa Rostock, FC Schalke 04 has gained some breathing space in the 2nd Bundesliga.
However, even more than the eminently important victory, the aftermath of the game was discussed afterwards.
In the meantime, the Rostock police have also drawn up an initial report. “The last home game before the winter break was marked by two interruptions to the game. Shortly after the kick-off, the game had to be temporarily interrupted due to pyrotechnics being set off in the away section,” the police wrote in a press release. ”Before the end of the first half, FC Schalke 04 supporters managed to destroy a glass partition in the away section by using blunt instruments to cause massive and prolonged violence. The destroyed window was then removed from its frame by the troublemakers. This allowed some of the Schalke fans to enter a cordoned-off area of the block in the direction of the south stand, and pyrotechnics were lit by both sets of supporters in response.”
The police continued: “Some of the F.C. Hansa Rostock fans then also tried to enter an adjacent cordoned-off area. The game was suspended for security reasons. In agreement with the F.C. Hansa Rostock officials, police were deployed between the home and away fan blocks. A clash between the two fan camps was prevented by the decisive action of the police officers and stewards.”
After intensive talks between the police, the event management, the fan representatives of both clubs and the referee, the fans were successfully returned to their assigned areas. After a 30-minute interruption, the game was able to be restarted.
It is clear that this will have consequences: “The events were recorded on video by the police officers deployed and are currently being evaluated. A report has been filed on suspicion of serious breach of the peace. A police officer and two security staff members were slightly injured. In addition, a paramedic was physically attacked in the guest fan section,” the police announced.
Before the game, however, it remained calm. ‘The arrival of around 2,200 guest fans and the shuttle service set up for them went without significant incident,’ the police wrote.
A total of 800 police officers were deployed for the game.
