SC Obersprockhövel has so far been unable to apply the experience in its squad on the road. A glance at the Westfalenliga 2 shows an upward trend.
With just one win from their first six games, SC Obersprockhövel got off to a modest start in the Westfalenliga 2 season. Since then, the team has recovered, even managing to avoid losing six games in a row before the winter break. However, the team is not planning on stopping its journey through the season just yet.
Jörg Niedergethmann, sporting director of SC Obersprockhövel, on…
the first half of the season in the league: “We’re very dissatisfied with the start. We didn’t get enough points in the first few games. We then pulled ourselves together and, had it not been for Dawid Ginczek’s subsequent absence, we could certainly have got four or five more points. But overall, we are satisfied.”
What was your best moment? “That was the home win against TuS Erndtebrück. We put in a very solid and mature performance. Erndtebrück never had a chance of winning with us.”
What was your worst moment? “The absolute low point was the game against SV Sodingen, who, I think, were bottom of the table at the time. That was our worst game of the season.”
The goals for 2024: “That is clearly a single-digit place in the table, or to get into the top six. With the squad we have, out of 23 field players, 18 people have played in the Oberliga and four in the Regionalliga, all with TSG Sprockhövel. We actually have a good squad, but the teams that are at the top are probably a bit better across the board. But the group is very balanced. If we hadn’t had the bad start, we could even be in the running for promotion. But that is by no means our objective. We are satisfied with the Westfalenliga. We have grown continuously as a club and have a very good environment. The team has been together for a relatively long time. We won’t be buying wildly like others might do.”
